While the glamour of Hollywood may not seem like the most ideal environment for fostering a charitable mindset or organization to outsiders, there are actually a number of highly beneficial charities started or supported by celebrities that tackle many modern-day issues around the world. The following are some of the most supported organizations by celebrities far and wide.

Alex’s Lemonade

The popular organization promoting the research and awareness of pediatric cancer has received support from countless celebrities, accumulating roughly $7.3 million in donations in just nine years. Some of Alex’s Lemonade’s most notable donors include Jason Bateman, Jimmy Kimmel, and Phil Rosenthal. In 2018 alone, those three were among 2,500 individuals that attended the annual Alex’s Lemonade Stand event in which $1.5 million was raised.

Baby2Baby

This nonprofit delivers diapers to children living in poverty around the world and has since given over 50 million products to those in need in just seven years. Baby2Baby’s remarkable efforts have attracted the attention of celebrities like Matthew McConaughey, Jennifer Garner, Kate Hudson, and Jessica Alba (among many others) since their very first event back in 2012.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are perhaps the most well-known supporters of Baby2Baby, encouraging their fans to donate to this organization in celebration of their recently born first child.

Human Rights Watch

HRW investigates cases of abuse around the globe and is strongly supported by an enormous number of Hollywood icons. Sidney Sheinberg, President and COO of MCA Inc. and Universal Studios for over 40 years, was an avid donor before his tragic passing in March of this year. Steven Spielberg pledged $1 million in his name following his death and contributed to the annual earnings of over $88 million just this past year.

The Human Rights Watch supports efforts against harassment and abuse in the workplace, teen imprisonment, and immigration policy. Aside from the vast individual celebrities that support this organization, perhaps the biggest donors include all of Universal Studios, Paramount, and Warner Bros.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Los Angeles

This youth mentorship program impacts the lives of 1,800 children annually in the Greater Los Angeles area, working alongside other beneficial groups such as the Young Executives Fellowship and Women in Entertainment Mentorship Program. Celebrity supporters include Mindy Kaling, Morgan Freeman, Adam Lambert, and Roy P. Disney, among many others.

Natural Resources Defense Council

The NRDC is out to raise awareness and funds to combat such environmental crises as the Flint water crisis, California drought, climate change, and many more. In 2018, Chanel sponsored a Malibu-based NRDC event that saw the likes of Barbara Streisand, Jennifer Aniston, and Pierce Brosnan, just to name a few of the A-list celebrities to come out and show their support.
